tall skirted toilet

Does anyone other than Toto make a tall skirted toilet? I am starting to look at things for the bathroom remodel next year. I am for sure going to have a toilet without all those curvey places! Flat! I want flat! And since I'm not as limber as I used to be, a tall toilet. The one I have now isn't as tall as I thought it was going to be. If you know which Toto toilets fill the bill, tell me now! I'm in the U.S.

I am afraid that I can't help you with other brands but I have been looking at Toto ADA height skirted toilets. The 3 I found were the Soiree, the Guinevere, and the Nexus. All are skirted and all are 16 1/8" to the top of the bowl (then add seat height to that for final height). I personally wanted a one piece (also for ease of cleaning) which eliminated the Nexus. I debated between the Soiree and the Guinevere and decided that the Soiree fit the design of the bathroom a little better, but I think both are good looking toilets. Unfortunately I can't tell you whether I like it yet. It is on order. Hopefully, it will be here soon. It has gotten some pretty good reviews though. Good luck on your search.

Thank you ever so much. I'm going to look at all those tonight and see what the shipping is like to here. I doubt there's any for sale nearby. There's NOTHING for sale nearby! It's the price I pay for peace and quiet ;-)

We have two Aquias III toilets that we installed 3 months ago. Really happy with the height and how they keep clean. Not sanaglos though. Nice looking as well. Hope this heps.

I have had a Nexus for a year and it has worked very reliably. I *did* have to have the supply valve moved because the plumbing rough-in for the Nexus (and some other Toto toilets) is NOT standard. It needed to be higher and more to the left than the standard supply valve location. This may also be the case with other skirted toilets. Check your valve location with the specs of the toilet you are interested in.

thanks for the head's up palimpsest. I wouldn't have thought to check that.

I wouldn't have thought to check that either. i'd also want sanagloss... i think 'john' is probably spam? I wouldn't want one hanging on the wall...

I've seen hanging toilets. I think The Handyman magazine had a small bathroom using hanging toilet and sink. Someone did, anyway. Visually, it worked.

Hi guys- Yes, I LOVE the Aquia III!!!! I tell my husband that every few days. It seems silly to be SOOOO happy about a toilet (!) but I just love it. Comments: I don't know what that guy in the reviews link was talking about: the low-powered (#1) flush is quite powerful. In fact we use it most of the time, even for "#2". Our floor is not totally flat (big tiles with some variation). After the installation I was worried because it did wobble a teeny bit if you shifted your weight just right. I bought some of those clear nylon "miracle shims" from the local hardware store, shimmed the edge where needed, trimmed off the part not under the toilet (which was most of the shim) and caulked the whole tile-to-floor joint (which seems more sanitary anyway.) Now- no problem at all. No, it doesnt have Sanagloss. The ones with it were out of my price range. BUT- I have had no trouble keeping it perfectly clean. RE: palimpset's post about Supply valve. I really don't think their specs dictate the supply MUST be where they say. Did it actually foul the tank or something? Our supply comes up through the floor on the RIGHT side of the toilet (the supply-tank connection is on the left side) and we simply bought a longer braided supply hose. It goes behind the toilet bowl and to the supply. No issues at all. Source: I did buy it online from ebuildermerchant.com (namebrandfaucet.com). I believe they had an auction on ebay and I found them that way. I bought ALL of my bathroom stuff, a HUGE order, from them. Prices were great, and I asked for -and got- free shipping, even on the toilet and tub! The tank+bowl was $312.25 and I opted for the softclose seat at about $50. |

In the standard location rough in, the knob for the valve and the back part of the skirted part of the bowl can interfere with each other. In the original standard location, the valve and the toilet needed to occupy the same space. The first time they moved it, it was this Rube Goldberg solution. The *second* time they moved it, (back to approximately "standard", they both fit but when you tried to actually turn the water on and off...the knob would not turn without hitting the toilet. The **third**time they moved it, (Yep.) It seems to be ok. It is not in the Toto Spec'd location, but it is not the everyday plumbed in location either.
And...

And, I live in a condo association where I need to get written permission to shut off the water for the building. And people don't read the notices and start calling the management company screaming bloody murder and then the management company then tries to give you 5 minutes to take care of business. Love the toilet. The condo association, not so much right now.

thanks everyone....i think i will order one....look forward to the skirted feature---is for the master bath where the toilet is in separate room 3ft wide, so cleaning the nooks and crannies on the sides will not be missed!!!

I just noticed the Kohler Saile toilet while browsing their web site. It's a pretty clean, contemporary skirted design. I don't think they label it as one of their "comfort height" toilets, but it seems to be the same 28-3/4" height as the other taller Kohler toilets. -- Eric

RE: tall skirted toilet

That Kohler Saile is lovely! But its $150 more than the Toto, even at my cheap source.
RE: tall skirted toilet
| | |
If the Kohler Saile does not mention ADA compliant, then it is not the high seat. The height of the tank top may be the standard 28 + you say all Kohler's have. But in the specs I saw no mention of the actual seat height. I think it has to be 17" to be approved by Americans with Disabilities Assoc.(ADA). But it is a lovely toilet.
RE: tall skirted toilet
| | |
You're right -- the Saile is not a high-seat model. I just looked at the detailed spec measurements, and the top of the bowl is 15" before the seat. The Kohler "comfort height" models which are ADA compliant have a bowl height of 16.5" before the seat. I've just started to look for the toilets we'll need for two bathrooms we're about to remodel, and it seems there's a lot of praise for -- and some complaints about -- Toto. Is Kohler generally not considered such a good choice these days? -- Eric
