If the door or entry is close to the wall where faucets are, you don't get wet. Mind you, guess you have to step into a 5 foot wide shower, ahh first world problems... But seriously, you should be able to turn them on without getting wet. Also, be sure to have thermostatically balanced ones (I think that's the term). You just preset it at the temp you like, and only have to turn on the volume control, no fiddling with taps.

You can put the shower control close to the entry, it doesn't need to be right under the showerheads.

That's what I have in my shower which is 5' by 8'. The valves are just inside the doorless entry. I have PB valves, we simply set the lever handle to the same "o'clock" position. I prefer a slightly hotter shower than my wife, so it works well for us.

Even tho my shower and controls are on the same wall, My hand held is on a slider bar, so I can aim it towards a far wall. Then I turn on the water and even leave the door open for the minute it takes to get hot, without getting wet. My shower is 3x4.

My controls are at the end where the entry is, opposite the shower head.

We have a valve right at the interior doorway to turn on the rain shower head so you don't need to step in the shower to turn it on. The rest of the heads and jets can be turned on without the user getting wet, too. It's a great feature.

We have a doorless walk in shower, about 5x6. The water control valves are just inside the walk in door area. The two big rain shower heads are on the far side of the shower.

Kind of hilarious that the shower sales person didn't know. It's a bit of extra plumbing, but so worth it. Who wants to go into a shower that size to turn on the water? It's always cold before it heats up... how miserable.

Our doorless shower is also about 5x6. We have two shower heads, one near the opening and the other on the opposite walls. The controls for each are below the shower head. I can step in and turn both of them on without getting wet. It's really not a problem at all.
