It's not that scrubbable. Look at FRP panels. That's what they use in public restrooms. For a reason. Easy to clean.

Could you do something like this with ship lap? I think it looks great and I have also seen it used in kitchens recently. I suppose you could use the hardie board in the same fashion. I think it is a great look too. I would try to stay with a smooth board rather than one with the fake texture.

If it holds up to outside weather should work in a bathroom! I used exterior siding on a playroom project and it is holding up very well with 6 kids daily playing and beating on it. No water to deal with though!

It could be painted with a high quality paint

I really do like the look with the ship lap siding. Did you ever complete this project? Did you use a cement board material? I haven't been able to find anyone that familiar with the use of this type of product on an interior wall.
