backsplash for sink top with lip

Almost done with MB renovation The 48" vanity with legs is in, with a standard sink top. The sink top has a lip only along the back. The top fits perfectly in the corner, to door trim on the left side and with about 6" to door trim on the right side. My question is what to do about backsplash? The plan had been to put 1 subway tile - which is in the shower only, in a separate room - along the back and left side. But with the lip, there will have to be a row of cut subway also along the side, which I think will look funny. Do we instead pull the vanity out and tile the back and side wall up to the height we want? And if so, do we tile the extra 6" to the doorway on the right?

I would post a picture if I could, but camera is not working. If it helps any, floor is porcelain black and white basket weave, vanity is a warm wood, and top is white (goes fine with white subway, gray grout).

Thanks!!
