Window/door trim above or abutting tile

In redoing my midcentury bath, the original clam shell windows and door trim was routered to lay OVER the tile. The tile covered only the bottom 4 feet of wall space.

I have decided to hire someone to lay the actual wall tile (12x12 marble). He asked that the new trim go up before he tiles, using the trim to abutt the tile to.

I'm not crazy with that idea, primarily in case 10 years from now, the trim gets replaced. I'm using the original sized trim around the door and windows (3 1 / 2 inch finished clam shell trim).

Thoughts? Do most tile jobs go up to or under the trim?

Thanks
Bri
