Cleaning glue off basement floor before finishing?

Hi! We had some minor leaking into our basement and water got trapped under hardwood floor that was glued directly to the cement. The source of the leak was found and repaired. We have ripped up the hardwood and there is a lot of glue residue still on the concrete. We are planning on putting down a dri-core sub-floor then carpeting. Do we have to get all of the glue off the cement before laying the sub-floor? If so, does anyone have tried and tested methods other than elbow grease? Also, what other finishing steps need to be done to the floor, ie: bleaching, sealing, etc. before laying the sub-floor? Thanks.

The glue only has to be removed if it's more than 1/4" higher than the rest of the floor.

Thanks for responding Worthy. Do I need to be concerned if there was some water that came in under the dri-core? I am wondering if that happened would the glue retain moisture and cause mold to grow?

From the Dri-Cor Site:

"For homes where the basement may have an existing subfloor or covering over the concrete surface that may trap, block or absorb moisture, we recommend that it be removed prior to installing the DRIcore panels."

None of the glues used to fasten the wood to the concrete are water soluble after they're set. I wouldn't think they would be a problem.

If the wood flooring was put down before 1990, you may have to take special precautions as it may contain toxic if disturbed materials.
