| I have a cinder block wall in my basement under my upstairs fireplace and it is in the way of a future remodeling project. Can I remove the wall and replace it with a header to support the upstairs fireplace? |

| You really need to consult a structural engineer. The weight of a masonry fireplace and chimney is many, many tons. Additionally, you do not want a support that will flex - this could lead to cracking of the fireplace and chimney. Using steel I-beams may be possible, but is likely to be very expensive. |
