 o
Sewage/'eggy' smell in the basement

Just moved into a house last summer that was built in 1950. Our basement has an sewage/egg-y smell. We were told to pour water down the one floor drain in the basement. This works very temporarily. The smell also comes and goes. Please help.

Check for other drains, and after filling the trap put about a tablespoon of mineral oil down to slow evaporation of the trap seal water.

If you have any other drains (like a laundry sink or stand pipe) they could also be dry.

they could also be dry.

Or not even fitted with a trap.
