IS there an average cost per sq. foot to finish a basement?

Our basement was finished, but we had water damage about 7 years ago and feared for mold so we removed all wood paneling from walls, and carpet and bleached everything. Then last year we remodeled our kitchen so they opened the ceiling now that's left unfinished too. It's been dry as a bone ever since - and now I'd like to refinish again for the kids to have a playspace. Nothing extraordinary - just new walls, ceiling/lighting and flooring. Maybe also an air purifier since it's a basement and I worry about air quality. Any rules of thumb to calculate cost?

When I was doing it for a living a basic basement ranged between $29 and $31 per square foot. That's framing, insulation, electrical (typically can lights), drywall, trim, painting, drop ceiling. No bathroom, no flooring.

I'd think 15% more today.

I would say $20 psf if no bath or flooring.
