Durafoam is a trademarked name of a brand of closed cell sponge rubber & plastic foam.

If you're asking about spray foam insulation for basements, I use closed cell spray polyethylene foam (ccSPF) on basement walls and rims. Open cell spray foam (oc), which comes in many different formulations, is more suited for the rims, though personally I prefer cc.

"fail"? In what way? For instance, foam is not a substitute for waterproofing and it's not structural.

We used the spray foam in my basement ceilings. It was unfinished and the "pink stuff" that was there kept falling out and was a perfect nesting place for mice. We wanted to make it a place the kids could play in so we ripped out all the pink stuff and had it all foamed in between the ceiling joists. It has been great. Its quieter upstairs, nothing to fall out of the ceiling and mice hate to nibble on it so its been great all around. Just not cheap. I forget how much we payed but def. more than pink insulation
