The point of entry for the pipes and cables is one likely location.
So would be any window frames or other openings in the side of the building. Be aware that water might get into the wall in one spot and travel some distance before coming out in another.
Overflowing gutters can also spill water back into the eaves and then on to the wall cavity.
A good quality, non-hardening, caulk, and a caulk gun, would address most minor leaks and a strong flashlight, even in the daylight, can be a useful aid in finding them. You should also have a ladder in order to get up close and personal with suspect areas.
If you could post pictures of where the water is coming into the basement, where the pipes and cables enter the structure and of the general outside area, it might spur some other suggestions.

Couldn't get an angle to get a good view. Not really like my dad described it. It appears there was a very wide pipe in the basement wall, but someone did a sloppy job of sealing it up with cement. (To keep out skunks). Inside the big pipe is a little pipe...beneath the little pipe is a small gap.

In the garage is a hole in the floor I never noticed because it is covered over with boards. When I removed the boards I saw a shaft that went down several feet. There was a weird arched opening in the wall at the bottom of the shaft. Above it was a faucet. Now I'm told this was an air vent for a generator.
