What to Pack to Patch Up a Leak

edlincoln

So my parents don't have major leak problems, but lately during major storms they've developed minor leaks in the (unfinished) basement. Previous problems have been fixed.

The latest leak occurred on a basement wall near the ceiling (above ground level) near where some pipes and wiring connect the house to the (non-attached) garage. The leak occurred during a short heavy rain storm that occurred after a long series of rain storms.

I plan to try a "quick and dirty" patch up the next time I visit my parents.

1.) What should I buy and pack for my trip down?
2.) What questions should I ask my Dad/what should I ask him to photograph?

To complicate matters, I am *NOT* handy and I don't go down often enough to make it possible to come down, look at the spot, buy the right products, and go back down.

Trying to figure out if I should be thinking in terms of gutter-extenders, tarps, or water proofing spray.
