Basement Corner Wall Deterioration

Posted by the-tech-guy (My Page) on

Below I have pictures of one of my basement corner walls that deteriorated. I bought the house like this and only lived here for about 3 years now. It is unfinished and just most recently I started to remodel. The humidity is pretty high (around 60%). My question is should I fix it or just cover it up when I do the walls? It does not leak. If I need to fix it - any recommendations? I am not much knowledgable in construction but learnable.

That's honeycombing, the result of a bad pour using no or inadequate vibration, perhaps aggravated by improperly sized aggregate.

If there are no cracks or settlement after this length of time, it is probably just cosmetic. You might want to patch it with grout or a cement-latex thin patch such as Drylok.
