I live in eastern WA state and the weather is NOT like Seattle. It is a dry area but there is seasonal rain and snow in the winter. I have lived in my 1939 house here for 20 years.
There is some efflorescence on parts of my basement walls but my basement is not damp; in fact it feels dry all year. I have had several handymen tell me that they have seen much worse and they do not seem very concerned and do not recommend work to be done.
It's been recommended that I use a waterproofer on the inside basement walls. After reading some of the comments on this site, I understand that this would not help the leakage which comes from the outside.
Is the waterproofing good for anything but cosmetics? Or is it beneficial to the concrete to apply it? If so, could someone recommend a good waterproofer? Otherwise, could I just put on a coat of paint instead?
Thanks for any advice.
