We have just finished our basement, after spending a zillion dollars correcting the problems that used to cause it to flood. We used the methods described by Andy Engel in the March 2005 issue of Taunton's Fine Homebuilding magazine, which are designed to allow moisture to move naturally through the surfaces without building up, and therefore reducing the likelihood of mold and the other problems associated with trapping water somewhere between the soil and the interior walls.
