Do I HAVE to staple in insulation?

I'm finishing my basement (with permits)...my question is...I installed R13 faced insulation. Do I have to staple it, or if it's held in there securely by pressure, is that sufficient until drywall goes up?

My inspector is gone for the day, so I can't ask him until tomorrow.

No, you do not need to staple in insulation. The caveat is that you are consistant in the stud spacing. Present day R-13 is a very rigid product. If you couple the rigidity with vertical surface friction, that puppy will not shift.

I didn't get any responses so I went ahead and stapled.
I bought a better stapler and that made it go pretty quick. It only took about 90 minutes.
My drywall guy came today and the room is looking great.
