Window well drainage problem

We have had a lot of rain this month. The window well on our South wall is full of water and not draining, the floor in the room inside is wet. This is the first time this has happened. Does this drain look right? Why is it above the rock?

RE: Window well drainage problem

Water doesn't drain uphill. The slotted cap should be lower. Remove the top, move the gravel away, cut the pipe a couple inches shorter and replace the cap.

Below is a diagram of the proper installation of a window well drain.

Often, window wells are not connected to a drain and will still work if the soil below the well is sufficiently free-flowing.
