12' X 12' hole in basement floor

All,

I have a 12 x 12 inch hole in the unfinished part of my basement. I do not think this is a rough in as there is no pipe in the hole. If I dig down another 6" or so and don't find any pipe, is it okay for me to fill this hole? It is a nuisance in my work room and I want to close it off from termites ect. Thoughts? I was thinking of just pouring concrete in it. Thanks!
