Dehumidifier Placement in Closet?

Hi,

I'm about to have a contractor begin finishing my basement and I need to figure out my plan for the dehumidifier. I live in Illinois, so I'm sure I'll need it.

Anyway, the two available drains will be in mechanical closets. A $1200+ ductable dehumidifier is not in the budget. My idea is to place a stand-alone dehumidifier in the closet with the sump and lift pumps so it can drain into the sump. Then I can have a grill/vent placed in the closet wall to equalize the humidity in the room vs the closet. Does that sound like a reasonable plan?

If there is not enough airflow, I could add a through-the-wall fan to force the exchange of air.

I've heard ofcloset dehumidifiers but this ain't it.

Why not just run a line through a wall and into the drain?

After my initial post, I found that my idea is similar to a concept in a Building Science paper. Reference the "Stand-alone Dehumidifier in Hall Closet System".

If you enclose the dehumidifier it is going to be less effective and cost more to operate.

In your proposal the only similarity to the BSC system is that the dehumidifier is in a closet. The BSC dehumidifier is abovegrade and is part of the entire home HVAC system.

The BSC system's only involvement with the HVAC equipment appears to be the fact that the vented closet is in close proximity to the central air return.
