Unfinished Basement Insulation

I have a 90+ year old home with poured concrete walls in the basement. I would like to insulate and appreciate any comments regarding SPRAYED FOAM insulation.

I seen it done on tv once where they studded out the basement wall and filled the cavity with "closed cell" foam insulation. The closed cell foam does not let water vapor pass through it.

Sprayed foam insulation is expensive, partly due to the materials, partly the on-site labor. Extruded foam insulation (Styrofoam and the other brands) is also pricey, but you don't have the labor of someone coming to your house to install/spray it. Foaming basement is a waste of money.

Most (1/2 below grade) basements require little
heating or cooling. Extruded foam or R13
would do just fine unless you are in the very
cold climate.
