Basement question

I know that this question has probably been beat'n senseless, but may question has not seemed to been answered. I read the building science.com info about basement insulation.

My question is this. After I put the foam insulation on the block wall (basement below grade), do I need to frame my wall "right" against it or can I leave a few inches between the foam and framing?

I have looked everywhere and can not find this answer. The reason I ask is cuz I started framing up my basement (per fathers "experience") he said to leave a few inches between the concrete wall and framing so air can move freely between them both. After I have done my research (which should have done first) I see that foam insulation should be applied directly to below grade concrete wall and then framing up against that.

I have 5 inches between my concrete wall and framing....i had a "french drain" system put in around the foundation.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a million.

Jeff
