Raised floor for plumbing. Advice please!!

Posted by jarvinen (My Page) on

We are planning on finishing our basement soon and need some advice.

We have poured 9' walls and no plumbing installed. We would like to plumb for a bathroom and a wet bar. Our builder suggested building a raised floor and installing the plumbing underneath. With our higher ceilings, a raised floor should not be a problem. I'm a novice builder and research, research, and research some more before beginning a project.

Would anyone have any advice or links to information that would assist in planning our basement floor and plumbing?

Thank you!

If your ceiling is not finished, putting a raised floor anywhere makes no sense whatsoever. You can pick up supply lines in the ceiling and run them to wherever you want. Similarly, venting runs upwards, not in the floor. In some circumstances, you might run drains above the floor till you tie them into the existing drains.

Tip One: locate your wet bar and bath as close to possible to existing stacks.

Tip Two: use an experienced licenced plumber to get the connections and setup to Code.

Thanks.

What about subfloor construction? Our basement is very dry, but we're interested in constructing a subfloor for warmth and a "non-basement" feel. Would you be against wood?

If you're using wood, stick to engineered wood or (I know it's not really wood) laminate on top of one of three types of subfloor--Delta FL or equivalent, DRICore or equivalent or XPS under plywood.
