crawl space - sort of - question

not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes. We have been in our house for 12 years. it is on three levels. the top level is the walk in level with most of the rooms, the middle level has a bedroom, bathroom, sitting room, small home theater and then there is a door to the crawl space, where the furnace etc is. this part is under the bedrooms and bathrooms. It is a dry area, with little to no dampness. down another staircase gives access to a small -5 x 8 area which is somewhat damper. The three walls are block and the other is where the staircase comes down. There has always been a 2 x 2 hole in the one block wall. This gives access to the plumbing for the bedroom on the middle level. The ceiling of this area is concrete and forms the floor of the carport above. we have never had any problems with this. recently we made the hole bigger (2 x 4) so that we can use this area for storage. Now we have condensation on the ceiling. My guess is that this is because the airflow has changed. So, how can I alleviate the condensation? the 'floor' area here is soil. the ceiling is braced by concrete block pillars. the house was built in 1964.
