I am purchasing a new home and had some basement concerns. The basement is block and when I walked through the property I had noticed that there was a fresh coat of paint (sealer) on the walls. I had a basement waterproofer come out and he recommended a French drain inside.

Well if I want to eventually finish the basement won't the water coming into the French drain system cause mold to grow on the back of the drywall? Even though the water is being caught, I feel like there is still moisture trapped between the drywall and the block. I did not notice any amount of water coming in after a heavy rain storm so it may be minimal.

The driveway and house are below street level slopes toward my house with a driveway drain that connects to a large drain pipe that goes somewhere. I know I have to make sure that no rain water sits around the house and even the possibility of some yard drain systems. Thanks everyone!!
