Question about smoke detectors

Posted by poetic_dreamer (My Page) on

In the apartment where I live the site manger sent around a notice about some of the tennats disconnecting or removing the batteries of the smoke detectors because of their smoking setting them off.

Is tampering with the smoke detectors grounds for eviction? Just wondering. BTW, I'm not gonna risk it by tampering.

RE: Question about smoke detectors

Yes.
There have been managers/ owners sued for this even though the tenant removed the battery. My city inspectors can fine landlords for faulty smoke detectors. Many times you open the detector and the battery is there but not conected. Inspectors realize the LL would not have done this. During my inspections I would say about 1/2 are disconected, or with dead batteries.
