Finding apartment in Cary NC?

Hi,
I am a single mom of two moving into Cary NC area from up North. I am looking for good apartment in that area. By good I mean reasonable rent, secure, clean and no pet (both my kids are allergic to any kind of pets), etc.
I did pick up booklets from local Walmart, however, there are so many apartments and not able to decide which one to even visit. Love to hear your personal experience too. Also I do not have friends or family in Cary area. Can anyone in that are suggest/recommend any please.
