Wolf range not turning off?

Hi all. We were using the broiler setting on a Wolf gas 30 inch range. Instead of turning the knob clockwise to the off position after finishing broiling, the knob was turned counterclockwise to the off setting, which was the closest path to get to "off." A slight click was felt, but because this was the wrong direction, the oven did not turn off. We couldnt go back in the correct direction to the off position after that because the knob would no longer turn that way. The oven no longer goes off. It still keeps heating. We can go to the broil setting and turn that on, turn away from it and the broiler will turn off but the oven still keeps heating cintinuously. Even when the knob is in the off position it still is on. We ended up shutting off the breaker switch and disconnecting the gas.

The plastic knob is fine. The metal stick under the knob is not stripped. The flat part of the D on the stick is on the left. Im nit sure if that is correct, but the plastic knob indicates so. On the burner knobs, the flat side of the D is on top.

Any ideas on what is going on??

Thanks
