can ikea framtid microwave be installed in a 24" cab?

The FRAMTID built-in microwave is listed as 30" but its' body is 21.8" wide. It looks like it would physically fit into a 24"-wide IKEA cabinet, and appears to be front/top- (not side-) vented. I even saw it installed in a 24" cabinet at an IKEA store (w/o being powered on). The very similar NUTID is listed as variable width (24-30").

Yet installation instructions from Whirlpool (who makes IKEA appliances) call for a 28"+ cabinet width - implying 3"(!) air gap on each side.

So, can I install it in a 24"-wide cabinet? Or would that setup not allow for enough venting?

I doubt it. I don't see where it says it is 21.8". I see 29 3/4"

The microwave itself *is* 21 7/8" wide. I measured the one sitting in my kitchen; also see page 4 (right side) of the whirlpool install guide.

I should have been more specific - my question isn't whether it's physically possible to fit the MW inside a 24" ikea cabinet - I know it is. It is whether doing so is safe (or safe-ish ;- ).
