Per the parts diagram at SearsPartsDirect.com, this model apparently has a mechanical linkage from the timer to the detergent dispenser for triggering the detergent doses to release. Could be something is jammed or broken among components for that function. The timer itself could also be jammed or broken.

Only way you're going to know is disassemble the machine for investigation. Or call a service company.

Thanks for your response, dadoes. I will see about checking out your idea. May end up calling service. I hate to do that because for years my husband owned an appliance repair shop and I never had to worry about things like this. Now that he has passed, my sons take care of some of this. I'll let them know your thoughts, and hopefully get it figured out.
