I can't answer the quality question (though I am happy with my GE Monogram range) but I look at reviews (personal and "commercial") as a guide only. If a brand is generally good and a new model has no reviews, that fact would not stop me from buying it.

And if Consumer Reports reviews it, I ignore everything they say ...

GE gets good marks for most of their cooking products, both from consumer review sites, and from repair persons. However, I'd move up a notch to the 750 model, as it includes convection, a 17,000 BTU power boil burner, and a center simmer burner. The 650 is a bit under powered for searing meats or other high heat cooking.
