Not sure if that's a silly question, but I've noticed that most of the complaints related to noisy modern fridges are in discussions about FD models. Is there something about the design that may make them more prone to running loudly?

On my end, I'm still looking to replace my dead mid-'90s SXS Amana. I purchased a compact fridge for the time being, to buy some exploratory time and to prevent me from making a big purchase under pressure.

One thing I only realized earlier today, after panicking for weeks about the fact that modern fridges are all about an inch and a half taller than my Amana (which is counter-depth and sits perfectly within cabinetry that I was worried I'd need to renovate in order to slide-in a new unit): I was only looking at FD style fridges. FD is my preference, but I realized today that many new SXS fridges are still 69 inches tall!
