Samsung washer and dryer -- any feedback?

These appliances will be on sale at Best Buy on Black Friday. We were going to wait awhile to get a new set, but this price seems pretty good. Any feedback on their performance/durability?

Samsung 4.0 cu ft Steam Washer: $599.99
Samsung 7.3 cu ft Electric Steam Dryer: $599.99

I'm also looking at those machines. I can't really help you much but I've heard that the steam feature in the washer at least is a gimmick. You can get the set without steam in the washer.

We bought the Samsung 448 (larger units) - installed one week now and have them stacked in the second floor bathroom. I LOVE them so far. Super quiet and very little vibration. Clean really well - lots of options. They are nice!

Have not used the steam feature in either yet. I can't believe how much you can get in them compared to my previous Maytag Neptunes.

I have the Samsung 448 set also. I've had them for 8 months and I love them. We really put them to the test--very dirty laundry and it comes out super clean. I couldn't be more happy with them.

Samsung seems to be setting itself apart from it competitors. I feel their fridges are much better and I believe the same for the w/d. My sister has the w/d and boy is that thing a smooth operator.

Thanks so much for your feedback. From every review website I've seen, Samsung is rated high. How useful is the steam feature? Sears has a Kenmore set and a Samsung set on sale for $999. One has steam, and the other doesn't.

Joyce_6333 ...you might get a better deal on the Sears Kenmore Elite washers that are built for them by Samsung. Thats why we went with the Kenmore over the Samsung 2 months ago... a few more features for less money. Same technology. Don't know about the steam though ....don't have that option.

KC -- I went to both Sears and Best Buy yesterday to look at both machines. Sears told me their machines are built by Whirlpool. Very confusing. I think we will probably go with the Samsung. The one on sale on black Friday is their top of the line. Both washer and dryer retail for $1499 each, currently on sale for $1347, and will be discounted to $599 each on Friday. The pedestals were quite a bit less than Sears, too, and Best Buy said we could have free delivery. Sears would charge $65 for delivery. Now I just have to convince myself I want to go stand in line in the middle of the night.

I bought a Samsung W/D this summer.

I am assuming it is a front load you are referring to. Therefore you must use a low-sud detergent and you must leave the door open a crack when you aren't washing clothes.

If you spin the tub (after you have done at least one wash) you will hear that water sloshes around. If the door is closed it becomes very smelly in there. The machine also needs to be used quite often so that pool of water is exchanged.

I can't imagine that steam would be useful. For it to sanitize clothes, it would have to penetrate them, and that isn't likely to happen with the way that wet clothes pack in a machine. Also, steam is hot and that wrecks elastic and sets stains. We wash with cold water. Everything comes out clean.

Producing the steam would also result in a higher operating cost for the machine.

It runs incredibly quietly, with no vibration. You can set a glass of water on the top of it and it doesn't spill!!

I purchased them 13 months ago. Water has leaked several times from the front of the washer and also from the top area where you put in the laundry detergent. I am very careful and have never overloaded the machine. I have contacted samsung customer service and they are NOT helpful at all. I also got a good deal when I purchased them- so you have to weigh things out- however, I'm not sure I would do it all over again. (BTW my laundry room is in the basement, if it were upstairs I would be LIVID) I am going through the same thing now, Black Friday deals for a french door samsung are fabulous and there are some very appealing features, however I may be sticking with my original more costly whirlpool gold. It's really tough making these decisions- I'm not sure there's anything built really well out there anymore. Hope this helps.

lamermaid: what model did you buy please?

I've had the top platinum ones for a couple of months now and I love them. Previously (before I moved)I had the Kenmore HE5t and I loved those too. I chose the Samsung over Kenmore this time because I needed something especially quiet and these are very quiet. I haven't used the steam in the washer yet, but the steam touch up in the dryer works well. I like that there are lots of options and customization of cycles, but the controls are very simple to use. I have a Samsung fridge on order now (great Black Friday deal) and I hope to be just as pleased.

Sheepie, which fridge? I've been looking for a deal on Samsungs.

Frenchman, a number of places have Samsung on sale.
I bought the 26cu ft white French door model for $1300.00,
saving $850 over the regular price. Even on sale, I've
never seen it close to that price. The ss are more.

They have Samsung w/d on sale too at some really good prices. I like that the prices were online on Wednesday and I didn't have to get up in the middle of the night
to stand in line.

KC56- kenmore washers ARE NOT made by Samsung - you got a bum tip.

Their whirlpool made machines have a serious flaw because of stainless steel drums being held by an aluminum frame. These 2 metals together are bad enough , but add in water and soap and there is a time bomb out there waiting for sears, well their customers anyway.

"……kenmore washers ARE NOT made by Samsung - you got a bum tip….."

Actually I have had my Kenmore Elite for about 5-6 weeks now and it most definitely is a Samsung made unit. But your not wrong either.... because it looks like these Samsung made Kenmore’s are only available here in Canada. Check out the Canadian website....these machine are nowhere to be found on the American site . . . weird.

Perhaps Sears plan to introduce the "Samsung" Elite to the USA in the near future.

WoW - I stand corrected - I had not been made aware that Sears had started a relationship with them.

I'm sure the NA rollout will not be far behind!

Maybe that is the plan ... move the Sears Elite line to the Samsung design as the contract with Whirlpool expires???

RE: Samsung washer and dryer -- any feedback?

Well, I did end up purchasing this pair on black Friday. Delivered last Friday, and so far I'm quite happy. There is a big learning curve and I read the manual cover to cover. They are VERY quiet -- really like that since our laundry room is right next to the master.

When I used it the first time, I was concerned that the wash cycle started and stopped every few seconds. No where in the manual does it say anything about this, and the deivery guy didn't mention it either. I was ready to call Best Buy and complain. But then I found out this is normal. Second thing I was surprised by was I see no water in the tub. The glass in the door looks wet, and I hear water running for just a few seconds at the start, but I see no water at all. Not during the wash nor the rinse. Is this normal? I've only run half dozen loads, and they seem to come out clean. I do find it annoying to have to leave the door and detergent drawer open. If I don't lay a towel over the door, it will close. Love the dryer. So quiet!! and so fast. I did try the steam, and I know I will find this useful for freshening things.

RE: Samsung washer and dryer -- any feedback?

Now I wish I stood in line on Black Friday and bought the Samsung washer and dryer set. Then I could sell my Whirlpool Duet set. I would prefer the stainless steel drum and how quick the dyer is. For those that bought the set, enjoy!
