10% Off Kobe

I have never ordered from VentingDirect.com, nor have I looked into their business practices in enough detail to strongly recommend them.

Today, I noticed that their website has a code

KOBE10

to take 10% off Kobe products.

I found their prices in the past to be very competitive.

RE: 10% Off Kobe

Is Kobe a good brand? When we needed a range hood a few years back, my colleagues at work recommended a local brand called Pacific. We didn't do any research, just went ahead and bought it. It seems to work great(highest setting is 900 cfm) but then that is the only brand we are used to. It is quite loud at the higher settings but we don't mind that as long as it does it's job. Now that we have remodeled our kitchen and all the appliances are SS we are looking to change our under the cabinet range hood as well. We are thinking of going with Pacific again but then we also would like to check the features other famous brands have and reviews about how they perform. Hence the question.

Are there any other brands we can look into for under cabinet range hood? I looked at vent-a hood but it seems to be much more pricier than Pacific and I am wondering if it is worth the money.

RE: 10% Off Kobe

Kobe, in my opinion, is one of the better of the mass-market brands. If has good fit and finish, baffles are used on many models, has good capture area and flow, and it runs relatively non-objectionably at high speed, compared to competition such as Best by Broan, Broan, Zephyr, and Elica.

I think that the next step up would be into something like an Independent or Prestige, or even another notch into a Modern-Aire. They will generally have better real-world performance than the mass-market hoods, even if the "numbers" suggest otherwise. Noise levels (dB, sones) and flow rates (CFM) aren't standardized in how they are measured, and the specialty manufacturers, in my opinion, tend to be more conservative in their ratings.

Vent-A-Hood is a very controversial manufacturer. Many think they are the cat's meow; I'm in the camp that they are over-marketed and under-performing for their price. In my opinion, if they had such a great system, everyone would be emulating it, and they wouldn't have to make such a big deal about "effective CFM" in their marketing.

I'm not familiar with Pacific, so hard for me to know where it falls.

I'd read a bit here on the various opinions, as well as sizing suggestions. The only search that works well for me is the on on the list-of-posts page of the forum.

Thanks for the detailed response! We'll research a bit more on Kobe and the other brands you have suggested.

I just ordered the Kobe CH7930SQ from VentingDirect. You can stack this coupon with Bing.com cashback. Currently it is at 8% for VentingDirect, and it is based on the pre-coupon price of the item. Now I'm just hoping for fast shipping before the holidays.

RE: Venting Direct shipping

I ordered a Zephyr Cyclone range hood from Venting direct last month. It arrived the day after I finally got an VD email saying it could ship as late as December 31st. VD has a Chico California address. The two items I ordered from them were drop-shipped from the manufacturers. Based on a phone call I made to them, VD does not have any control over or knowledge of when items will actually ship from the manufacturer. In fact they say on their website that one should expect a wait period on some products because specialty items may not be fabricated until after an order reaches the factory where they are made. In my case the Zephyr range hood had a fabrication date of 2004 but no indication where it was made! It arrived after three weeks via UPS. I ordered the black painted version and was a little worried that the paint might be damaged if it was poorly packaged. It came double boxed and arrived in perfect condition. Inside and out it appears to be a very high quality product.
