Appliances and happiness

| They say money can't buy happiness, but spending the money on the right appliances seems to work pretty well. I've posted a bit about our Bluestar range, (now nearing it's one year anniversary), and it still brings to each cooking experience a pleasant "Ah, that worked very well" feeling.
On a much smaller scale, we just got a new toaster oven. I like toaster ovens better than pop-up toasters because they don't need to sit on the counter top and they can heat muffins, rolls, and even, when fortune smiles on me, the occasional croissant. We replaced our not so old Black & Decker toaster oven with a small and very inexpensive (~$30) Emerson TOR49 model. The old one had been working poorly for some time and was an annoyance every morning. The Emerson has simple controls, a solid sturdy feel and a good look. It toasts nicely and the oven and broil features work better than the old one ever did. As with the Bluestar, each use is a pleasant experience rather than a frustrating one.
For things you do every day such as making breakfast toast or cooking on the stove, that little bit of happiness adds up. |

I agree...there is great satisfaction when you find the perfect appliance!! Just curious...where do you store your toaster oven? We've always had a pop up toaster that we keep on the counter...never thought about having a toaster oven til you brought it up. |

| "They say money can't buy happiness, but spending the money on the (insert personal choice here) seems to work pretty well." Words to live by. |

| Gotta agree. Our newly acquired BlueStar slide-in rangetop is a daily joy to both of us. Definitely a life-enhancing experience, especially in comparison to the (in our opinions) frustration-making, prissy little Creda glass cooktop we replaced it with. There's something satisfying about getting appliances that reflect your basic values, something depressing about having to live with tools that don't. |

| The installer just left after installing my new Miele DW. I'm so happy I could cry. |

| We put a bookshelf cabinet at the end of our counter and the toaster oven lives on the top shelf of that cabinet. I put an outlet inside the cabinet for it, so it hides in there nicely. That shelf is right next to the kitchen table, so it's very convenient for breakfast. With about 5" of clearance above the toaster oven there's no problem with heat building up in the shelf. |
