Whirlpool Gold Dishwasher

I know this is a long shot, but I have to try! I think I want this dishwasher but am having a difficult time ordering it sight unseen. It's available at Lowes, Best Buy and Sears, but none of them have it in stock.
The ratings are good as well as the price, but I'm concerned about the appearance of the black metal door. I love the clean, no frills appearance, but there is no hiding cheap!
Does anyone own or at least seen this dishwasher?
The model number is GU2275XTVB. |

Bumping this because it is the same dishwasher I am potentially interested in. Also, I have a water softener for the whole house. Does anyone know if getting the dishwasher with a built in water softener is important? Or in my case, would it just be repititious. I thought it might be good to have as a backup. |

| Soft water is zero-grains. That's it. Doesn't get any softer. If the machine you're buying has one built in, don't use it. Assuming your whole-house softener is operating as it should, it would be quite purposeless. Whirlpool makes good dishwashers at the high end. I have two Golds at different locations that are nine years old and still running like new. They do a good job. Be aware, however, that Whirlpool makes the stupidest silverware baskets in the world. Have for decades. They have this poorly conceived little latch that doesn't hold so that when you lift it out, as often as not the latch comes undone and spills your silverware all over the place. I keep mine closed with plastic twist-ems. Otherwise excellent machine. |

Well, nuts!

| Sorry for the duplication. Haven't a clue why it did that. |

Stupidest silverware baskets in the world .... maybe Whirlpool hates silverware baskets, cause also in Europe now they have some issue with them ;-) 15 years ago their machines came with a couple of small nice baskets like this one
You could use just one or both of them depending on your needs. You could put them toghether, one in each corner or even one in the upper rack.A great idea that was copied by several competitors. Today WP Europe makes just a single giantic basket. Look at it, wasting a lot of space in the middle of the rack inside this BauknechtAid

| We have this dishwasher! We actually love it. It replaced one that was a higher end dishwasher that had all the bells and whistles. Forget that! The baskets broke, the tines bent, the up and down turned out to be useless. What my DH wanted was SIMPLE. Lots of room with ultimate flexibility. In other words, just a huge cavernous opening LOL! It has turned out to be a HUGE benefit and fits double what we used to wash. The silverware basket is in the door. That takes some getting used to, but I now find it the best part. No wasted space in the bottom drawer taken up by the basket. The upper cup drawer is simple and fits everything. The price is so good! We paid $612 through Home Everything (free ship/no tax). We got the stainless version. It has the delay button for setting off in the middle of the night and an extra hot setting. Have been totally happy with ours, now 16 months old. I am not sure I would have even been happier with a more expensive one.

| I agree with all this praise. Good illustrative photos. Also good view of the silverware basket....which can also be placed off of the door in one of the racks if your prefer. The accursed latch I mentioned is clearly visible in this photo...that little blue tab in the middle of the basket . |

I'm concerned that with the silverware basket against the door, thus preventing water getting to it on one of the sides, that the silverware won't get clean as well. Any issues with this? |

| No issues with that. Everything in it cleans up quite nicely....unless, as some of my visitors do, you place plates or a cutting board upright in the rack in front of it to obstruct free water spray to it. Also, if you don't like it there, the basket can be easily/quickly moved to the main compartment where it is designed to fit nicely. My only complaint with the entire machine is with the stupid latch on the silverware basket. Otherwise, it is a fine-performing and quiet machine. My two have been trouble-free for nine years. |
