Question for Trevor or 30' Bluestar rangetop owners

Posted by carecooks (My Page) on

Using a lot of good info from GW I'm trying to come up with the preliminary design for my kitchen on my own. I have always dreamed about having a 36" rangetop with 6 burners, but I've realized that it probably won't fit in my space. So it will have to be the 30" with 4 burners. I know that I can adjust to having 4 burners since that's all I've ever had, but I was hoping that I could put two large fry pans (14" each) on the cooktop and still have room on the other two burners for saucepans. That has always been a problem for me. I don't have a local place to take my pans to check it out myself. Anyone have an answer to this?

Oops, I meant 30" Bluestar. No one has room for a 30 foot Bluestar.

From front to back the cooking area is 22", so I am thinking you can use a 14" skillet and a 8" saucepan.

Width will be no problem

Thanks that gives me a good idea. How big are the burners themselves?

On the range, the burner grates are 11" square. The removable "bowl" is 9 1/2" in diameter.

I can't speak for a "cooktop" vs. a "range" as I've never seen the former from BlueStar in person.

Thanks sfjeff. I'll try making a template with that info, but I think that my pans will work.

Cooktop is 11" grate and 8" bowl. There's plenty of room for my 12" cast iron skillet but our 14" skillet overhangs the grate a bit which means it "invades" the adjacent burner. An 8" next to it should be fine however since the 8" is well under the 11" grate. Keep in mind though the 14" skillet will probably get some extra heat from the side if the adjacent burner is on high. This shouldn't be a problem in most cases. Also, it's easy to avoid this by using the burner that is diagonal to the one with the large skillet.
