Reducing frig noise in tile kitchen

Posted by endlessfixing (My Page) on

My old refrigerator ran constantly and could be heard throughout the house. It rattled and sounded like a big truck driving by. So after reading these forums, I bought a Kitchenaid counterdepth french door frig. Although definitely not as loud, the new frig makes more noise more often than expected. I can still hear it from my bedroom down the hall.

The house is old, the kitchen floor is slate tile, and the rest of the floors are hardwood. The frig is surrounded by cabinets with very little clearance on the sides.

Has anyone found a mat or something to put under a frig to reduce noise? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Try getting a few carpet squares and stick them on the wall behind the refrig and under the unit. This will give a soft surface to absorb the noise.
