I'm an amateur in the kitchen but I need more than 4 burners for pots at same time. Posts here say 30"range is too small to use 5 pots at same time so I'm expanding to a 36" range. I've never used a griddle but have option of 6 burners or 4 burners & a griddle. How handy is the griddle and can it "double" as a cooking surface for an extra pot? (I don't cook bacon or pancakes, etc., which is what I think of when I see a griddle. I l cook in a pan or pot so I can remove it & serve). Also, I'm buying all gas (can't afford to upgrade our circuit to accommodate a dual fuel).
Sorry for the LONG question. Am trying to make a decision this weekend, if possible. Would love your feedback & suggestions.
Don't think it matters, but forgot to mention I'm getting a 36" free standing range. We're thinking seriously of the NXR based on what I've read here (price is definitely our biggest issue, since we're doing our reno on a shoestring. (Will see one in person this weekend before we make the final decision). Thanks everyone!
Definitely 6 burners, 36" range. The burners are all big enough for large pots and 2 people cooking at the same time. The 6 burner configuration gives you the capability for a really large skillet, lobster pot, canning pot, or deglaze a roasting pan--all not possible with an integral griddle. You can always put a griddle on top of two burners, and it can be easily cleaned in the sink. Or, use a separate electric griddle, which can be moved anywhere.
We opted for a teppanyaki grill/griddle installed next to our 6 burner, 36" DCS all gas range. We like the griddle but it gets nowhere the use or the versatility of the rangetop burners. If I had to leave one thing out of our kitchen, it would be the installed griddle.
