NXR trim package, what is it for?

When I go to ajmadison's site and look at the NXR 30 range, they also sell a trim package "30" Island Trim(DRGBIT30)"

What is this for? Is it so the gaps between the sides of the range and counter tops are hidden. range overlaps sides of countertops? Or is it for the back edge gap?

If it is not for the gaps between the counter top edges and the range, will the NXR range overlap the counter top sides to hide gaps?

No it's not for the sides. Pro style ranges are unconcerned with that and none overlap the counters. That's a consumer grade slide in. Pro style ranges are free standing. The trim is a backguard to properly direct the oven heat venting. Many pro style ranges have several choices for the height of the trim but all will stick up slightly from the counter height, even the island trim.

I wondered the same thing about the island trim kit. Seems it is a replacement for the 4 inch backsplash that comes standard. Other than that, I don't understand its function.
