Need feedback on digital device in living room

Hello Folks,

I was hoping to get some of your valuable feedback - I've started to work on a "media frame" (like a photoframe size) which would sit on your mantle piece/on your study table/tv and wanted to get your thoughts on functionality/features. Basically it is a 10" LCD screen which will have the following functions:

1. Display photos which are linked to your personal picasa account (i.e. just like a digital picture frame). Any picture you take from any device and upload to picasa will be shown on the device.

2. Show reminder during morning and evening (the reminders are simple one liners which you would email to a special inbox that would show on the device - such as "remember to take document X to work")

3. Show the weather in full screen during the morning hours from 6am-8am (configurable timing) - includes high/low, as well as graph of todays forecast. Idea is that when you wake up you can see that.

4. Well defined structure so that people can extend it and show whatever information they want when they want.

Firstly, what do you think about this product? Do you think it is useful? If not, what would make it useful? I prefer to make something which is useful rather than push something which just has novelty value.

How is it different from a well-configured tablet? Or are you talking about just writing a good suite of apps?

I think 10 inches may be ok for a bathroom, or tiny apartment, but a device that could drive a digital TV would seem to me to provide the kind of longer range visibility that would be useful across a kitchen or when passing in haste past a living room.

Kinda cool idea. 2-4 are on my phone. I think the things that would be more valuable to put there would be shared info. My own agenda is on my phone, but wife's is on hers. If combined agendas were available might be useful. There's probably an app for that I haven't found & then it's on my phone.

Likewise, if family to do lists were available, that might be useful. Grocery list? We have a blackboard in the kitchen for that type of stuff but if it could aggregate calendar info that'd be cool. Of course we're rarely in our living room. That room is mostly reserved for company, so maybe just pictures.

There's an app for sharing calendars. It's a standard feature of the Google calender thing. So you could display both your phone calenders on a tablet or something (as well as each other's phones). Since it's web based, it isn't limited to the Android platform. And Google already knows everything you're doing anyway....=P

Actually there's a lot of sharing stuff in the google things. The spouse and I do have a shared Christmas shopping list on Google Drive and we share stuff with our architect the same way. We could tack a tablet to the fridge and keep lists that are updatable and readable via phone or laptop

Our grocery shopping list is paper stuck to the fridge, though.

I have to admit, I like turning things OFF. I don't want electronics pulling power all the time, no matter how small.

Anyhoo, if Pra could put things together in a nice neat easy-to-display package, I think a lot of people would find it useful.
