Wall Oven Installation BELOW Cooktop?

Posted by saratoro2 (My Page) on

Our kitchen renovation plans originally called for a wall oven (27" deep) to be installed beneath an existing electric cooktop. But we're concerned the oven position will be too low. Has anyone done this?

Options are limited (this is a small kitchen and I don't want any overhead cabinets; am replacing the fridge with a 24" Liebherr Integrated so there will be only one "tower"). The only slide-in ranges I've considered are the 30" Viking electric (no gas in our condo) OR the Dacor Millenia, which is aesthetically a better fit with the scheme. Any feedback on walloven placement vs Dacor range option is appreciated!

I did that and it's not a problem at all. The oven won't be much lower than the oven in a range, and unless you bake all day every day, you won't even notice the difference in height. I didn't want a range and had no place for the oven except under the cooktop. I find it very convenient, since all my prep and cooking takes place around the cooktop, having the oven there makes sense. I use the grates of the cooktop for pans I take from the oven and it's very easy to move things from the cooktop directly to the oven.

Good luck with your remodel.

It's no problem for me either. I bake A LOT and I wanted two ovens in my kitchen... so I have an oven near the baking center (a wall oven) and one under the induction cooktop (pictured below) so I'd have an oven near the cooktop to use when preparing meals. As momj47 said, "it's very easy to move things from the cooktop directly to the oven."

We had a gaggenau 24" under our old cooktop.

No problems. The heat was slightly annoying, but not a deal-breaker.

I liked that the Gaggenau door swung to the side.
