Blue Star Burner Clogged

Posted by malhgold (My Page) on

15K BTU burner on recently installed Blue Star is clogged. It only initially lights about 3/4 of the way around, and then slowly adds a few more holes, but not all of them are lit. Any suggestions on how to unclog this and/or how to prevent this from happening again?

Thanks!

I am assuming that it was not caused by a massive spill over, if so just call BlueStar and they will replace the burner head, it is possible it was not cleanly drilled out, if it is from a spill a pipe cleaner brush will unclog the burner or just a thin drill bit.

"Recently installed" suggests to me that it is under warranty. Even if not, a call to BlueStar should get you a good answer.

it was from an overflow, and we were unable to clog it with a drillbit. guess i'm not used to the boiling power!!! Thanks so much!!!

How did you find the clean up after the over boil ?

Have you tried using a pipe cleaner as suggested? That should do it if it's just the top openings that are clogged. BTW, what was it that boiled over? Just water or was it something that contained sugars or starches, like thickened soup or some such? If it's just water, take a can of compressed air and blow each of the openings.

Either way, you should probably take the burner completely out and make sure you don't have liquid still inside the burner. Just be careful disconnecting the ignitor wire and make sure you don't crack or damage the ignitor itself. Hold the burner over the sink and tilt it so the orifice where the gas enters the burner is pointing down and shake it out. Make sure there's no rattling or liquid noise remaining. If some stuff comes out then take the pipe cleaner and do another pass on each of the holes to make sure there is no more gunk in there. Shake and repeat until nothing more comes out. If it was just water, use the compressed air instead of the pipe cleaner.

honestly can't remember if it was just the water that boiled over or water with the pasta boiling in it.

since i don't recall being bothered by a huge clean up, I guess it wasn't so bad...LOL!!!

It 's real easy to remove the burner element it just lifts out and you can unsnap the electrical connector. I usually clean the burner in place using a bamboo skewer to unplug the holes it works perfect every time. I usually do it with the burner on to see that I have it properly cleared . And remember You got to let that little white ceramic piece dry to get the ignition to work correctly.

Easy-Off do it in the sink.

tommmy2007.. you poke a wood skewer in there with the burner on? Does it catch on fire? :)

Everyday cleaning is basically just a soapy scrubby. Stay clear of the igniter and go to town. Easy-Off seems excessive to me for most cleaning.

Line the drip tray with aluminum foil and recycle it every couple months to take care of any cooking spills.

Take a look at he videos that Trevor has up for his technique.

buffalotina - I'm guessing that tommy2007 uses the skewer with the burner turned off :-). I don't know if it would work on the Bluestar but on my DCS I use a paper clip to clean out the holes in the simmer burner ring.

Oh OK... he said with the burner on, that is why I was wondering!
