Windcrest vs. BlueStar Hood

The BlueStar hood is made by Prestige. Since they do not have a distributor in Canada, I have to go through BlueStar. This pyramid hood is exactly what I wanted: baffle filters, a narrow chimney section (12" wide), good construction, and an infinite swith for the blower.

The Windcrest seems well made (on the basis of one review), but it has wider chimney (15"), mesh filters, and only a 3-position switch. HOWEVER, it is $800 cheaper (almost 40% less than the $2100 BlueStar).

I'm having a really hard time justifying the price difference solely to get baffles and the infinite switch. Can anyone comment on the Windcrest hood?

Windcrest is a good hood, but you get what you pay for from BlueStar. By the way....Prestige is out of New Jersey and the BlueStar hoods are manufactured in their factory in Reading, PA.
The BlueStar hood has two rows (one front and one back) of baffle filters. The capture area maximizes the ability to exhaust out of the kitchen. The have no seems front or sides and the quality is fantastic.
I do think your extra investment will give you a wonderful return.
Good Luck!

Thanks golden_west. Are you saying that you have a BlueStar hood?

On the Prestige connection, it appears that I oversimplified things a bit. The dimensions and features of the two hoods are identical (for what is listed) and Prestige told me "We are working very closely with BlueStar". That doesn't equate to "made-by" - you are right. Thanks for the clarification.

lambic, sorry to hijack your thread for a moment, but have you been in touch with anyone at Prestige recently? I've been trying to reach someone there with a technical question this week but only get voice mail (which goes unreturned). Thanks.

pielady:

Since I can not buy a Prestige hood in Canada without importing one, I'm no longer in contact with them. Sorry, can't help you.
