Is the foam under an induction cooktop enough to keep spills out?

My new Thermador induction cooktop has a foam gasket that seals between the glass edge and the granite. This cooktop is close to the 2nd sink on the island, so we will have a lot of water spills that also get to the cooktop. Is the gasket sufficient to keep out all liquids? Do you seal the outside with silicone as well? I can run a bead of silicone around the edge but it might not look as pretty.
