Mid-price range hood brands (Whirlpool, Windster, Z Brisas, etc)

I know it's been asked over the years, but since replies are sporadic, the range hood question again.... :)

We are looking for a 30" wall mount, traditional pyrimidal hood style, not the new curved glass look.

In addition to working well and reliably, a specific preference is simple mechanical controls (why a touch screen?!?), and bright lights or at least standard sockets into which halogen or LED lights can be placed.

Mid-range price. Preferably $500. Could push towards $750, and if everyone says that all sub-$1000 hoods fall apart quickly, we'd listen. $2,000 is right out!

Some options we are looking at given reviews and past forum posts, but we would welcome any advice, suggestions, or experience owing one of these hood brands!

Top two, based on our price point:

Whirlpool / KitchenAid (identical hood under both labels it seems)

Windster, RH-W

(good reviews, but lights a minus and I think it says 23 gauge steel - thin)

In the running:

Zephyr Brisas

Kobe SQB

I'm hesitant on Broan since they mostly make such low-end stuff, and their 'heat sentry' auto-on feature sounds like a pain (plus fairly low CFM on their hoods). Maybe I'm too quick to dismisss; Consumer Rep liked their 'Best' line (though $1000).

Likewise just don't get a great feel about Cavaliere, especially since so many of their models are all touch-screen and some electronics reliability issues noted.

Thanks!!
