dehumidifiers

| We have an old (at least 10 years) dehumidifier that we bought at our local HD. It has worked wonderfully in our finished basement, but seems to be dying at this point. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am reading of many units that are failing within a year. I am leaning toward a Delonghi or a Danby, but open to anything.
Thanks,

I have a Frigidaire that's worked without any problems for 10 years. I'm sure they don't make this model anymore, but it might be worthwhile for you to look at this brand.

I love my Whirlpool dehumidifier which is the same one my hairdresser has since she has her salon out of the bottom of her bi-level area in her home. I have packed it away but I will try to get to my outside storage area to find the model for you. I now need a humidifier since winter is here. In NJ where I live, it gets so humid in the summer and so dry in the winter due to the forced hot air heat I have. I have been using the dehumidifier in the garage since I am now storing files in there. I rarely have to use it in my home since I bought last year a new central air conditioner/heater/compressor unit when my old one at 19 years of age died on me.

I have a Soleus Air CFM-40 that I love. It is very quiet and has worked perfectly for three years. I like how quiet it is , you can have it running in a room and barely hear it. So it is great for finished basements where you need a quiet dehumidifier. I bought mine at Amazon.
Here is a link that might be useful: Soleus Air CFM-40

All great recommendations! Thanks, I'll check them out. Cynthia

Add one more vote for the Soleus. DO be aware that it's rated capacity is a bit questionable, BUT, it truly is the quietest dehumidifier by far. I can't believe how much quieter it is compared to all of the other dehumidifiers I've used. Also important is that it won't automatically restart after a power failure. This might be a make-or-break deal for you.

Online reviews are available for many dehumidifiers. I was all excited about Delonghi features, but reviews show serious durability problems.

Thanks bd. It seems that a lot of the newer ones have that in common. I will reread the reviews. It shouldn't be this hard, should it?!

FWIW, I have a 70-pint Kenmore that's seen infrequent heavy duty. I bought it to dry out my crawlspace when I had water issues due to poor foundation waterproofing. Was used for 3-week periods running 24-7 about 4 years ago. Recently pulled it out b/c we had crawlspace water again following the 500-year storms in ATL (so much surface water that it overtopped the vent wells and poured in). It's been running down there now for several weeks without issue.
