early review: bosch b22ct80sns fd cd refrigerator

We have had this Bosch CD FD refrigerator running for 6 days, and I thought I'd share my early impressions.

Looks: I really like the square flat clean lines of this refrigerator on the outside. Inside is fine - the refrigerator has a nice layout, the door shelves are solid. The two bins for fruit and vegetable close easily and feel like they will last.

The freezer's layout is excellent. The ice maker is a bit small, making ice production slow (8 cubes at a time), but the trade-off is that you get more storage space. There are four compartments: one to the right of the ice maker, a shallow but full width pull-out shelf that will be very handy (its not deep, but perfect for a frozen pizza or popsicles) and then the bottom is divided into two sections.

Noise: My kitchen is open to a large living room, a den, and a library, and we currently have no rugs and no furniture - so everything seems noisy. This refrigerator though does not seem very loud. When it turns on, I can hear it, but it is easy to tune out. I think that once we have sound dampening (art work, rugs, furniture) it will be hardly noticeable.

Surprise: I really like the water dispenser inside the refrigerator (not on the outside of the door), but unlike my old kenmore refrigerator, the water dispensing is controlled electronically, and so noisy. Even worse is when its filling the ice maker - a loud electronic switch did make me jump the first time I heard it. I expect we will get used to it, and like the other noise, it will be less obvious when we've moved into these rooms.

The other surprise is that there is no butter dish for the door. I guess that is OK, but there are things I always keep in the butter dish (butter (duh) & ginger root), these will need to find a new home.

I am happy that it is lit by light LED lights (no excess heat), but unlike the LG that has lighting from top to bottom, this refrigerator's light is in a conventional location, at the top.

I do not have any fancy gizmos to follow temperature fluctuations, but I can tell its better than my old kenmore ever was. Overall I am very happy with this appliance, fingers crossed for longevity. Hopefully my benchmark wall oven (left swing) and speed oven will be installed next week, and I promise reviews will then be forthcoming.
