It's the rubber gasket- they are designed to keep the noise from escaping and do a pretty good job, but the consequence is that slow draining you experience.

InSinkerator's design is way better.

BTW the Franke disposal is the same as the WK one.

When our disposal was installed, we had a slow drain too. It turned out it was just a coincidence that the disposal was installed at the same time the drain got slow. Our plumber found debris in the line, likely from all the dust and stuff kicked up during our kitchen reno. Once that was cleaned out, our disposal and drain ran perfectly. If you too have been doing a kitchen reno, check your plumbing - your disposal may not be at fault for the slow drain.

With the Insinkerator, I find that running the disposal speeds up the flow, particularly if suds are slowing it.

I see this is an old thread, but I just bought a new Waste King disposer, and have the same problem. I can tell it's not a plumbing issue, because removing the rubber splash guard solves the problem. Apparently that guard is just too stiff. Has anyone found a good solution?

Elliott B - if the rubber shield is causing a problem, you can try running it in the dishwasher a few times to soften it up. Alternatively, you can use scissors to snip a bit of the tips off to widen the opening of the shield.

A totally different solution is to get a batch feed disposal instead of the continuous feed disposal that you have. A batch feed disposal does not have the rubber shield at all, but it operates differently than a continuous feed disposal in that you feed it in batches, rather than have it be on grinding until you turn it off. Many people like the batch style disposals, but it's a personal preference.
