The issue is usually caused by the limit switch. Unfortunately, the limit switch is part of the burner and not generally replaceable on its own.

Your left front burner is part number 316224201. It costs about $90. I would buy any parts online at either RepairClinic or AppliancePartsPros. They let you return for any reason within a year of purchase, even if you install it and it doesn't solve the problem.

All the glass tops come apart pretty much the same, there are tons of YouTube videos and online instructions on how to get at the burners underneath.

Wow..$90! So the next question...does the fact that 1 out 5 went after 8 years mean the rest are about to go...ie should I be considering a new range...I expected a dozen years out of this...or more!

BTW...Now I turn the burner on and...nothing at all....think its the burner or the knob...or both?

and...I stopped by the local appliance store...guy told me not to replace range, rather just replace the burner if that is what is at fault.

I played detective. The burner showed continuity with my meter. However...so did the infinite switch!

Now what?
