External blower range hood right on other side of the wall?

My cooktop is on an external wall. Does it make sense to have a back vented range hood with an external blower, right on the other side of the wall? Will the external blower be money wasted? I'd like it as quiet as possible, but not if I can still hear the thing because it's not far away.

I have a 1000cfm remote blower on the roof about six feet away from my hood. Can I hear it? Yes.
Is it as loud as if the blower was in the hood? No.
...so I guess that translates to "as quiet as possible" and "I can still hear the thing because it's not far away"

One would imagine that the cost of the external transition (cap) plus internal fan would not cost much more than the external fan embedded in its own transition. But that may not be the way the components are priced.
