Do you use/like the griddle on your rangetop/cooktop?

I am planning to do a 36" gas rangetop or cooktop and I really don't need 6 burners, so I am considering either 5 burners with controls on top cooktop, or 4 burners rangetop with griddle.

I was wondering if people like their griddle tops? How many things can you use them for? How are they to clean? Which one brand do you have?

Thanks!

I have 36" AG range and a portable/removable griddle - Pancakes, quesadillas, veggies, chicken, eggs - Cast Iron w/coating - EASY to clean - typically can be cleaned right on the stove top - if it's really dirty I bring it to the sink -
I leave mine over 2 burners - and like that it serves as a warming tray -

good luck

I use my griddle almost daily. Same things that jejvtr listed. A griddle placed over 2 burners tends to get a cool spot in the middle over the gap between the burners. My grill is evenly hot across the surface.

My last stove had the griddle and I looked everywhere for a new one but the difference in price was way more than I felt justified in spending for it. I loved the one I had and mother had one when we were growing up. I used it nearly everyday too. Grilled cheese, garlic toast, eggs, so many things. You can buy an electric one for about $50 or less. Of course you have to have a place to put it.

I love, love, love the griddle that's built in to my 48" GE Monogram range. I have 6 burners and the griddle. I just got the range a little over a month ago, but I use the griddle almost daily for all kinds of things - eggs, fajitas, pancakes, hot dogs, marinated/seared chicken breast, etc. I never thought I would use it this often, but it does a great job with almost anything you can think of and not just traditionally "griddled" foods. I find it's one of the best ways to get an intensely high searing heat down to a nice, puffing up kind of low heat, for just about anything.

I used to have one of those cast iron griddles that covered two burners that I used w/my last range, but this is waaaaaay better - hotter and more even.

I almost didn't get the built-in griddle but I'm so glad I did.
